Over millennia, people developed dogs to be wonderful canine companions, so they're smart.
Coren argues, "There are three types of dog intelligence," based on how dogs interact with humans:
Instinctive: Human-bred dog behavior Adaptive: How well the dog learns from its environment to solve difficulties
Working and obedience: How hard the dog works to please its people and accomplish its jobs.
Coren says all three are based on the dog's desire and capacity to interact with humans
—both by comprehending and responding to human signs, actions, and orders and by barking, moving, and acting.
